Come and join us on the Downs every Wednesday evening at 7pm opposite the Water Tower for a game of touch rugby.
Anyone welcome regardless of ability or club membership. This will fill the gap until we start pre-season training on July – further details on that to follow.
Preparations are already underway for the 2008-09 season following a well-attended AGM on Wednesday 4th June. Last season’s skipper Rob Franklin agreed to stay on for a second season to be supported by Chris Carter as vice-captain. A further boost for the club was the announcement of Jon Merrin as head coach to be supported by Dom Swann in a backs-coach capacity. Philip Cheek will continue to lead the 2nd XV as well as expanding his duties to assist with club administration.
Off the field, the general committee will be restructured this year to provide better support to the captains and ensure a fairer distribution of the workload as we continue to implement our 3 year development plan. Under the guidance of Chairman Dave Morgan and President Dave Perkins, each member of the committee will be asked to volunteer to lead on specific duties following the next meeting on 2nd July (9pm, Prince of Wales, Westbury-on-Tyrm). As always we are looking for as many volunteers as possible so if you can spare some to help the club this season please get involved in the committee – speak to one of the names below or come along on the 2nd July.
The full committee is as follows:
President: Dave Perkins
Chairman: Dave Morgan
1st XV Captain: Rob Franklin
1st XV Vice-Captain: Chris Carter
2nd XV Captain: Philip Cheek
2nd XV Vice-Captain: Paul Arber
Head Coach: Jon Merrin
Treasurer: Julian Arnold
Fixtures Sec: James Almond
Secretary: Jak Larter
Press Officer: Dom Swann
Facilities Manager: Sam Phillips
General Committee (specific roles tbd): Guy Garnett, Ben Worthington, Peter Abel)
Old E’s continued to push back the boundaries of rugby tours by successfully undertaking a tour to Morzine , France , and Geneva , Switzerland . The 19 strong party spent 4 days skiing in Morzine, Les Gets and Avorias (including one day in full penguin costumes!) before playing a match against Geneva , the reigning Swiss champions. In a thrilling encounter E’s ran out winners 26-24 to end a remarkable tour.
Each penguin got airborne on the slopes, often with spectacular results – take a look below for the evidence! Next season’s tour will be somewhere in the UK with a number of destinations being considered by the committee…

We would like to thank our sponsors for their support during the 2007-08 season:
